謎の高額請求に英語で立ち向かう

税務記録を見直して、「たまにはちゃんと大人らしいことをしよう」なんて思ってたんです。
I was going through my tax records, thinking, “Hey, maybe it’s time to act like a proper adult for once.”

ほら、全部会計士に丸投げして「後はよろしく！」って祈るだけのタイプじゃなくてね。

必死に思い出そうとして、「あっ、そうだ！あのときの買い物だ！」なんてドラマみたいな展開を期待したんですけど……そんなうまくいくわけもなく。
I desperately tried to remember, hoping for some dramatic “Aha! That’s it! That’s what I spent it on!” moment… but of course, nothing.

仕方なく、クレジットカード会社に電話しました。
So, I had no choice but to call the credit card company.

電話に出たのは女性のオペレーター。冷静に話そうと頑張ったんですが、声は見事に裏返っちゃって。
A female operator answered. I *tried* to stay calm, but my voice totally cracked.

向こうは慣れたもので、まるで「この程度のトラブルなら朝飯前ですよ」って感じの落ち着きっぷり。
She was clearly used to this, with that calm, “Oh, this kind of crisis? I handle these before lunch” vibe.

それで教えてくれたんです。「90日以内にご連絡いただければ、別の部署で対応して、返金できる可能性があります」って。
Then she explained, “If you report it within 90 days, we can forward it to another department, and there’s a chance you’ll get a refund.”

90日……。もうとっくに100日以上過ぎてるじゃないですか。
Ninety days… and it’s already been over a hundred.
